Trout Flies: Using Live Grasshoppers as Lures Video

Researching and selecting new trout flies to try for your next fly fishing adventure can be an engrossing and enjoyable experience. While there are many different flies to choose from, one unorthodox fish bait choice can be found in your backyard and its price tag is free! Grasshoppers are prevalent, inexpensive, and can help you land a lunker next time you’re out trout fishing on your favorite stream!

While some anglers will argue that traditional flies are the only way to go, using grasshoppers as trout bait is definitely a viable option. During the end of summer season, trout often stay close to the bank in hopes that grasshoppers will get blown into the stream. Since grasshoppers are generally easy to catch and can be used either live or dead, they are a great way to entice a hopeful trout near the bank.

If you cannot find live grasshoppers during your fishing excursions, the video below showcases many successes using artificial grasshoppers.
